Inspired by the timeless hymn It Is Well with My Soul, this handcrafted landscape represents faith, surrender and peace even through life’s storms.

The Story Behind the Hymn

The hymn was written by Horatio G. Spafford following an unimaginable family tragedy. In 1873, his wife Anna and their four daughters were crossing the Atlantic aboard the Ville du Havre when the ship sank. Anna survived, but all four daughters were lost.  

As Horatio later crossed the Atlantic to join his wife, the ship’s captain told him when they were passing the area where his daughters had died. It was in the aftermath of this loss that Spafford wrote It Is Well with My Soul — words that became an enduring expression of faith and peace in the midst of profound sorrow.  

Our It Is Well landscape draws from that same message: peace is not the absence of storms, but the assurance that even through them, our souls can find rest in God.
