What Arrived Wasn't What I Imagined

My first three English roses arrived bare-rooted, yellowing and barely hanging on. Within a week or two, all three were gone. Replacements came, but not in the colours I had originally wanted — those would cost more — and even the surviving plants took 7–8 months before I saw my first bloom.

I tried other online sellers. Some plants arrived in better condition, but many were still weak and struggled after arriving. Far too many never made it past their first few months.

And I remember thinking:

There has to be a better way to sell plants.

A Journey Of Learning

But I Kept Learning

But I researched, experimented and kept going. Slowly, my roses stopped merely surviving and started thriving.

Truthfully, I didn’t have green fingers either.

I lost roses to spider mites. I learnt about root rot, soil mixes, watering and what our tropical climate can do to a plant that isn’t ready for it. There were plenty of mistakes — and plenty of dead roses.

And somewhere along that journey, the idea for Vine&Petals began.

I started Vine&Petals because I wanted other plant lovers to have the start I wish I had.

Everyone deserves a better chance at growing the plants they love — and that starts by giving both the plant and its new owner the right start.

Because green fingers aren’t something you’re born with — they’re grown.

My own experience taught me that bringing a beautiful plant into Singapore is only the beginning. What happens after it arrives matters.

That’s why at Vine&Petals, we don’t simply import and sell. We give our plants time to recover from their journey, acclimatise and establish themselves to our tropical conditions before they leave us for their new home.
